Most women prefer leather handbags because they always keep up with fashion trends, but despite this, they require specific care to make them last longer.
There are bags made with fine and wrinkled leather, and soft leather is much easier to clean. Wrinkled leather needs to be cleaned more frequently because the grooves get dirty more easily.
However, cleaning leather bags, especially expensive ones, can be risky. If you're not careful, it's easy to turn a repairable bag into a damaged, unusable one.
So be careful, you should handle your bag carefully and test the detergent you will use on an inconspicuous area first, and know that the best way to clean your bag is to prevent it from getting dirty in the first place.

Steps to clean a leather bag:
- Sometimes bags develop a bad smell, perhaps because they haven't been used for a long time and have been stored carelessly in the closet. It's possible to effectively eliminate the unpleasant smell with natural methods. First, open all pockets and zippers and let the bag air out so that most of the smell disappears naturally.
- To enhance odor elimination, take a cotton ball and soak it with 5 drops of tea tree oil or cinnamon essential oil and rub the inside of the bag thoroughly.
- If the bag is washable, fill a bowl with hot water and melt a tablespoon of baking soda. Soak the bag in this mixture for a few hours. After the required time, rinse with warm water and repeat the wash if necessary.
- Dry metal decorations and hinges completely to prevent rust and damage.
- On the other hand, if we're going to store the bag in the closet, it's easy for it to develop mold stains, so it's a good idea to always store bags with sachets containing silica gel, which absorb moisture and effectively counteract the formation of mold stains. However, to remove mold stains already caused by moisture, you should wipe them with a cloth soaked in alcohol diluted with water. Let it dry, then rinse with a damp cloth and wring it out with mild soap and water. If, on the other hand, you don't have denatured alcohol on hand, you can also use a solution made with water and vinegar and then wipe the bag with a clean cloth.
- And for general cleaning of a leather bag, which may also have suede or velvet inserts, it's best to use a clean cotton swab or a cloth soaked in cow's milk, gently wiping it over the entire surface or directly on any stains you see.
- Then all you have to do is dry and wipe with a dry cloth.
- If you notice specific stains on your bag, you can try removing them with a regular eraser, one you can find at stationery stores. Gently rub it over the leather until the stain comes out.
- Don't forget to perform regular maintenance on your leather bag, so we recommend applying a solid body moisturizer. To polish your bag, however, you can use an old pair of nylon stockings and your bag will look like new.
- On the other hand, you should know that during the summer, the sun's effects on the leather of your bag can take their toll, so you should always protect your bag as much as possible to prevent its leather from weakening. Store your bag in the shade.
- Finally, we must point out that to keep your bags clean for longer, you should store them on hangers and never stack them inside each other. Also, avoid storing bags with things inside, and always dust them.
